What is Custom Lasik?

There is a lot of people in the world that do not grasp the fact that the eye is not a perfect human component. Optical components of the eye distort rays of light as it passes through indivdual pieces of the eye. This is caused by the imperfections of the Cornea and Stroma. But now the general population in the modern world have Lasik Eye Surgery, Custom Lasik Eye Surgery and Radio Keratotomy. Now what is Custom Lasik Surgery you may ask?

Custom Lasik Surgery is basically the customization of the shaping of the Cornea. It requires measuring the Optical Aberations ( distortions of the rays of light through the imperfections of the eye) using a wavefront guided laser. The goal here is to create a complete reshaping of the Cornea.

Possibly the main tool involved in the accuracy of this Custom Lasik Surgery is the Aberrometer System ( simply a system that lets the Lasik Surgeon see aberrations in clear rotating images in 3-D.) The Aberrometer system sends a laser light in low amounts of energy into the eye. The light from the laser will then reflect off the retina and travel back through the lens and cornea making an outgoing wavefront. The aberrations are then displayed on-screen in precise 3-D images.

Then the Lasik Surgeon uses the digital interface and data to map the path and targets of the Excimer Laser. The 3-D images assist the Lasik Surgeon by scanning the eye thousands of times per second looking for eye movement. Then, using computer control, it makes micro-adjustments at speeds many times per second to reposition the pinpoint laser beam between pulses of light, tracking even the smallest and quickest movements of your eye during treatment. This helps the surgeon deliver a smooth customized corneal shape to provide you quick visual recovery and individualized correction of your prescription.
